I keep forgetting...
Kamijou Shiina and Misaka Misuuzu have become quite close friends. The Touma/Mikoto shipping gets stronger all the time. If your moms (corrected) push for it, how do you resist?
In volume 8, chapter three (New Testament), Mikoto is saving Index, who is returning the favor by explaining the (Norse) magic that is being thrown at them.
So far still no recognition between Misaka Mikoto and Lessar. I guess it might not happen, which is a shame.

I'm halfway through season 2 of the Anime (the second half isn't available till the end of August). It is surprisingly DARK at this point.
I also have just added Manga volumes 1-8 in the 'to read pile'...which is a conundrum since they contain spoilers.

I remember reading a comment you posted elsewhere that you are watching the second Railgun season. Is that right?
The second season of Index is indeed darker than the first, but not by a lot. The characters in Index are definitely darker than Railgun, even when they overlap.
I started reading the Railgun manga after the events of the first season. I don't think I missed to much in the way of continuity. Recently, they just finished an arc that was very dark indeed, which featured Misaka Mikoto reluctantly teaming up with Misaki Shokuho. Mikoto almost destroys the city until Touoma and the least used level 5 - Gunha Sogiita intervene. The denouement is wonderful, as Saten does Misaka a solid with touma.
The Light Novel has side stories that allow you to avoid any anime/manga/LN overlap. One exception would be the Railgun Liberal City side story. It was a great read, especially if you are a Saten fan. I think they hinted that the next Railgun season would center on that.
The official LN timeline is a bit different from the Anime timeline, but not by a lot. It is amazing what these kids do between July and September.
