SS 312 Burrfish

In listening to the discussions of KanColle, I am reminded about the great knowledge of history, including military history, you all have. My major link to WWII ships (boat, in this case) is USS Burrfish SS312, my Dad's sub during the war.

I can't tell if that is in Portsmouth or on the Thames in Ct. Dad can't remember either.

It was a great experience for me and my son to have Dad give us a personal tour of the USS Lionfish ('SS 298') in Fall River, Mass.  The two boats were the same Balao class.

I fared better than my sister who went on the official tour with dad, who politely corrected the tour guide.

Every minute or so.

Everybody has their hobbies.  I've done milhist for nearly 35 years, though to be fair I wasn't exactly studying it when I was 11.  I'd like to think it counts for something, but your father would be the true expert, at least when it comes to submarines and actually being in the Navy.

2 Alas, I didn't learn about my Grandfather having been a Machinist's Mate on the USS L-01 during WWI until after his death, so I know very little about it.

3 Mauser,
My Sister and Brother in Law wrote and got a book of logs from the government written by the Captain of the boat and I believe the first officer. I believe they are available for all WWII subs (or all everything?), so maybe WWI as well?

It's great history, even if many of the complaints seem to be centered around the torpedoes.

4 Alas, I understand a lot of the WWI records were destroyed in a fire.

5 Ugh. That might put a roadblock in the way.
