bit torrent, utorrent or what?

Is there a torrent program that works better than others? Is this even a question i should be asking???

For instance,I want to be sure that nothing runs when I don't want it to. I also don't want spyware as part of the deal, etc.

So what is reliable, safe and allows me to chose which files I can download?

1 I still run an older version of uTorrent.  You can change the priority of files in a batch from High to Don't Download. It seems to be the cleanest thing so far.  The only thing I've had trouble with is the RSS feature and pattern matching to auto-download, so I gave up on that.  It's meant to be very clean and lean. I remember Steven had some issues when he transitioned to version 3.x, but I don't know what they were. I'm on 2.2.1, and see no reason to change yet.

It seems to handle most of the current features of the Torrent protocol, although my !#%$!@ ISP still targets its transmissions for bandwidth suppression. (Yes, it's peak traffic at 4AM, and there's no bandwidth left - except an extra megabit or two so you can watch that YouTube video at the same time.)

I even use the label feature to help keep track of where I found something or if I've watched it yet. Just be sure of where you set your download directories, because moving them is a PITA.

2 Done. This whole thing started with me wanting to download a LN of Kyoukai no Kanata, which I just finished watching and found rather enjoyable, although the end was a bit rushed.

Now I see it has only three chapters (volumes?), so I am wondering if the series covers it all.

3 Mauser, I do like some of the features you noted (labeling, etc.), but I have not yet gotten that far  into it.

Thanks for the recommend!

4 I too use 2.2.1, and jealously guard it against any and all updates uTorrent tries to stuff down my pipe.

5 Do you guys use BakaBT? I see it mentioned every so often, but I don't know too much about it.

6 I use BakaBT less and less recently (in the last 2 years) because they purge lower resolution torrents that I want and replace them with the HD torrents.

7 As a SOURCE of torrents, I typically go to NyaaTorrents. (For regular TV I go to EZTV, although it was down for a while after they got busted, they're back up).  Typically of the multiple sources on EZTV, I'll pick ones from BTChat.  If it's not there, Kickass, but I don't browse it often (I went there for Season 4 of Korra).

My big issue is that my ISP claims they use UDP on port 80 for network management, so it's effectively blocked for me, and for some stupid reason, the vast majority of public trackers are UDP on port 80.  I delete those trackers from the torrents in a vain hope of not bringing the torrent suppression algorithm down on my head.

8 Thanks, guys! That's a lot of info I need to peruse.

I'm not sure why Pete uses lower res files, but I do that as well. The quality is still good and I will use it as an inspiration to buy the series I like from Bob to get the full deal.

9 Probably a slow connection, or limited HD space.  They come in faster.

Amazingly, last night my ISP DIDN'T interfere for once and I downloaded an episode of something to try in 12 minutes, running about 300-350 K/sec, which is close to the advertise 3 megabit/s rate my wireless internet is supposed to get (I've often gotten 4 out of it though).

Too bad it sucked.

10 Cox upped my speed so your average episode in 1080 takes about three or four minutes, up from about ten before. I was impressed.

What episode did you download?

11 Unfortunately Cable around here is Comcast, and I don't want to touch them with a 10' pole, even if it has a nail in the end.

First episode of Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji because someone mentioned it. But totally not my thing.

12 Comcast is awesome though.
